Recently, the Lord has been reminding me of the 1999 hit movie called The Matrix. It was a movie that took the entertainment industry by storm and totally revolutionized film-making with its spectacular visual effects, using a ground-breaking technique called bullet time that allowed the viewer to explore a moment progressing in slow motion as the camera appears to orbit around the scene at normal speed. But the true value of this movie was not its ground-breaking visual effects, its cast of actors, or its success at the Oscars. Its true value comes from its ability to communicate some powerful prophetic truths regarding our lives on this planet and its present reality.
It has been so long since I last viewed this movie that I felt strongly compelled to acquire a copy of it for review. For those of you who have not seen this movie, I would strongly recommend either renting or purchasing it so you can view it at home. Even though it was filmed over ten years ago, the message it communicates is as valid today as when it was first released. And even if you have viewed it, view it again; only this time let it be from a biblical world view.
Trinity, one of the main characters in the movie, made this statement:
“I know why you're here, Neo. I know what you've been doing... why you hardly sleep, why you live alone, and why night after night, you sit by your computer. You're looking for him. I know because I was once looking for the same thing. And when he found me, he told me I wasn't really looking for him. I was looking for an answer. It's the question that drives us, Neo. It's the question that brought you here. You know the question, just as I did.”
What Trinity is describing in this statement is a hunger and a pursuit of something that seems to often elude us. We feel isolated and alone even in the midst of a large company with whom we fellowship and worship. We can hardly sleep at night because we are driven before the presence of God through prayer and study of the Word, knowing that what we have been experiencing thus far is not even close to what God intended. In the midst of all our ministry, religious activities and church services, there is still a huge void there where we are unable to truly touch and experience the presence of God. We are hungry and desperate for more, and something deep within our hearts questions and rejects this present reality.
We’ve been living and operating in a false system called the Matrix. Although it’s very difficult to explain exactly what this Matrix is, Morpheus, another main character in the movie, gives us some keen insight:
“Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself. The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.”
“The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work... when you go to church... when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.”
We live in a day when there is much talk about the Kingdom. After all, it has become the new popular “Christian” term even though there is absolutely nothing “Christian” about it. But even though there has been a lot of preaching and teaching about the Kingdom, most of the people using this term have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about. To understand the Kingdom you first have to be unplugged from the Matrix with its false religious system. It is this false religious system that is our enemy and that perpetuates our blindness and deception. Once inside this false system, everything seems normal and acceptable. And the people who are a part of this system and help to perpetuate it have no desire to be unplugged or disconnected from it. It has become a part of their lives and a part of their reality which they enjoy, and they will radically or even violently oppose anyone who seeks to pull the plug on this false system.
The minute we become unplugged we begin to enter into a Kingdom dimension and recognize the Matrix for what it is. We can preach and talk Kingdom all we want, but if we’re still attached to this corrupt system we will still be functioning in a Matrix of deception. The Kingdom of God cannot be just taught; it must be experienced. It does not come by observation, declaration, explanation or definition. And even its manifestation must first be preceded by an internal transformation and activation of its core values. Jesus was able to manifest the Kingdom through signs, wonders and miracles because the Kingdom of God was within Him (Luke 17:21).
Using the word “Kingdom”, changing your religious programs or structures, or teaching “Kingdom” messages does not necessarily make you Kingdom. Most of us are not ready to face the truth that a whole lot of what we previously believed and thought to be true is actually false. The reality that many of us have grown accustomed to is not real. Neo, the main character of the movie, almost went into cardiac arrest when they first unplugged him from the Matrix and introduced him to the true reality. And if there has not been a total disconnect, you are still a part of the system and therefore will oppose true Kingdom advance. When new revelation emerges that contradicts your old religious thought processes, you quickly reject it.
“If real is what you can feel, smell, taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.”
“…if you are not one of us, you are one of them.”
“I'm trying to free your mind, Neo. But I can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it.”
“Neo, sooner or later you're going to realize just as I did that there's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.”
“You have to let it all go, Neo. Fear, doubt, and disbelief. Free your mind.”
“This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.”
I have decided to take the “red” pill – to allow God to unplug me from this old deceptive system called the Matrix and to free my mind to the new realities that we have become so blinded to from trusting in our physical senses. I have decided to allow God to expand my understanding and to totally dismantle my old beliefs. There’s no option for half the pill – It’s either all or nothing! God has been literally blowing my mind!
We have been living in this Matrix of deception for long enough. It is time for members of this community to take that “red pill” and allow God to show us just “how deep the rabbit-hole goes.” It’s time to open up our hearts and minds to a higher dimension of revelation and allow God to invalidate all the wrong beliefs and doctrines we have blindly accepted over the years. This is the day and the hour of reformation. Will you be a part of it?
